Ackles is peradventure better known for his role when Eric Brady on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives from July 28, 1997 to July 31, 2000. His portrayal of the immature photographer earned him a 1998 Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Male Newcomer.

Fallowing allowing Times, Ackles migrated to Vancouver, joining the cast of the series Dark Angel in the character of Alec. He continue that program, conceived by James Cameron and starring Jessica Alba, from 2001 to 2002. Within 2003, he made many guest appearances when C.J. on the hit WB Network show, ''Dawson's Creek.

Within 2004, Ackles returned to Vancouver and became the regular in an additional wildly popular WB Network series, Smallville'', which revolves around a life of the adolescent Clark Kent (later to become referred to as Superman). His character, Jason Teague, was a flaming of Clark Kent's ex-girlfriend, Lana Lang, played by Kristin Kreuk.

Ackles returned to television in A just released The WB horror series Supernatural in the role of Dean Winchester on September 13.
